Section: SportsHydroplane races set for Oroville

Racers from all over the western United States will take part in the American Power Boat Association 2008 Western Divisional Pro Outboard Hydroplane Championships at the South Thermalito Forebay Recreation Area in Oroville this weekend. The event begins today with racer registration and testing. Racing begins Saturday morning at 9:30 and goes through Sunday.
"People who enjoyed the stock and modified division hydroplane races here last year are in for a treat," said Kenn Christie of the Northern California Outboard Association. "The Pro division uses higher performance professional equipment, resulting in faster racing and more action. With Oroville being renowned for having the fastest racing water in the west, this is sure to be a blowout event."
